RE Module Term 3: New Religious Movements

Duration:  7 week module

One class will be in the classroom learning about NRM’s and the other in the prayer room

Aims:
Students will explore New Religious Movements and will be informed of their beliefs and practices
Students will learn meditation and relaxation techniques


Objectives:
Students will be able to explain what a New Religious Movement is and give examples of  NRM’s
Students will be able to identify who joins NRM’S
Students will be able to explain what to do to help someone in a NRM
Students will be able to demonstrate mediation and relaxation techniques

Teaching and learning strategies:

Use of power point
Youtube.com clips on NRM documentaries or newsreels
Internet search
Class discussion

Written assignment

Term 1: Pilgrimage

Aims:
To develop an appreciation of pilgrimage within the students life
Objectives:
  • Students will have an understanding of the notion of pilgrimage.
  • Students will learn of the different types of pilgrimage.
  • The will appreciate the notion and idea of journey.
  • They will learn of the places of pilgrimage throughout the
    world.
  • They will study one place of pilgrimage in detail.
  • Look at the Hajj and the movement of pilgrimage.
  • They will identify the places in their own lives of importance.
Course Content: 
  • Sacred places and sacred places local to the area.
  • Pilgrimage an introduction.
  • Historical places of pilgrimage; Lourdes, Knock, Lough Dreg.
  • Look at the Hajj and the journey of Hajj.
  • A pilgrimage to a local sacred place.


Assessments:
Project to be completed on a place of pilgrimage including the following headings.
 
  • Place of pilgrimage
  • History of chosen place 
  • Pictures
  • Why choose this area?
  • What it means to you
  • Journey to this place
  • Casestudy
