Music Appreciation
​Students complete CAD, Music Appreciation, Self Defense and Legal Studies.

The Music Appreciation module has the basics of the Orchestra (music) module condensed into a 7 week period, while allowing students to take part in other modules including CAD, Music Appreciation,Self Defence and Legal Studies.

Aims and Objectives:

  • To develop in the student a love of music, particularly in constructive listening.
  • To enhance thed learn about musical styles which he/ she may not have encountered before.
  • student’s awareness of structure/ texture/ musical style/ recording techniques etc. when listening to/ performing music.
  • To give the student an opportunity to listen to and learn about music styles which he/she may not have encountered before.
Students will be able to:
  • Compare and contrast two or more performances of a given piece of music/ song.​
  • Identify the various musical styles which influenced Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, and the recording techniques used in its recording.
  • Identify the musical features of rock, opera and ballads.

Teaching Plan:

  • Research on the internet
  • Listening to/ watching performances on YouTube, 
  • Use of worksheets for focused listening
  • Class discussion​

Course Content:

  • Elements of Musical Style in the students’ preferred musical genres
  • Musical styles – Rock, Ballads, Opera and Stage Musicals
  • Music throughout the years e.g. 70s, 80s, 90s etc

Method of Assessment:

  • Student's project
  • Participation in class discussion/ group performance

Evaluation:

  • Students will identify the strengths /weaknesses of the module using an evaluation form at the end of the module.
  • Evaluation by teacher based on work being submitted for assessment by students.
