GAA Skills

Title:       
  • Foundation Level GAA coaching development programme. 
Duration:       
  • One double period all year round
Aims:
  • To increase the students knowledge and skills in gaelic football, camogie and hurling. 
  • To develop students confidence in coaching   juvenile players and be able to carry out training sessions.
  • To understand what good practice is with training teams and to promote that in their own training sessions.

Objectives:
  • Pupils will acquire and develop their skills in all areas of gaelic football, camogie and hurling.
  • Pupils will be able to plan and conduct a coaching session for juvenile players. 
  • Pupils will be able to teach the basic skills of the game and evaluate performance and provide feedback to players. 
  • Pupils will prepare training sessions and go to the local     surrounding primary schools and gain first hand experience in coaching juvenile players.

Assessment:
  • Activities will be assessed by outside agencies (GAA) and pupils will be awarded certificates based on: Attendance and completion of log books and practical lessons. 
  • Continuous assessment of student participation.
  • Peer / Mentor Observations. 
  • Assessment of written work reports and log books.
