Duration:
6/7 weeks - 1 double period a week

Aims

  • To give students a taste of some aspects of Leaving Cert. Business so students can make educated Leaving Cert subject choices.
  • To give students who have not studied JC Business Studies a better understanding of the importance of enterprise. 
  • To give students an understanding of the Marketing Mix
  • To develop the their presentation skills
  • To develop their group work skills

Objectives

  • To encourage in students an interest in, and a positive attitude towards enterprise.
  • To encourage students to consider the option of being an entrepreneur when they leave school.
  • Students will present a powerpoint presentation on an entrepreneur they have researched.
  • Students will in groups apply the Marketing Mix to a product they designed & make a presentation to the class.

Class 1 &2

  • What is Enterprise
  • The importance of Enterprise
  • The characteristics of Enterpreneurs
  • Case studies on Mary Ann O’Brien, Cillian Fahy, Richard Branson

Class 3
  • Study an entrepreneur of their choice &  prepare a PowerPoint presentation for the class

Class 4, 5, 6, 7


  • What is Marketing?
  • The Marketing Mix- Product, Price, Place, Promotion
  • Product- The Product Life Cycle, Packaging, Production
  • Price- Pricing strategies, Mark-up, Price skimming, Price Leadership etc...
  • Place- The Channels of Distribution
  • Promotion- Advertising, PR, Personal Selling
  • Case study on Finches & accompanying worksheet
  • Marketing DVD
  • Dragons Den DVD
  • Group Project on the Marketing Mix of a product they designed.
